Lukas Weithas' (Bregenz / Austria) artistic practice and position is based on many years of work in the mountains as a shepherd and dairyman and is closely linked to an aesthetic critique of the unambiguous legibility of Alpine and rural culture, its contemporary forms of representation, social relationships, values and normative constellations. His sculptural, painterly and performative works address the romanticised formal reduction and inadequacy of rural aesthetics, their seductive lies and promises, but also authenticity, longing and beauty. Weithas transcends conventional cultural forms and their architecture in his works by amplifying, deforming or abstracting them, as well as de- and recontextualising them in other realities. He studied Agriculture and Alpine Farming at BSBZ Hohenems (2014 – 2016), Transmedia Art with a focus on Social Practice at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (2017 – 2019; M.A.) and Pioneering in Arts, Media & the Creative Industries / Arts and Culture Management at Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen (2019 – 2021, M.A.).

Since July 2023, he has been curating the exhibition format DOCK 20 life, which is presenting experimental positions from the fields of performance, dance, choreography and music at DOCK 20 – Kunstraum und Sammlung Hollenstein / Lustenau.
