Lukas Weithas (living in Bregenz) has many years of experience as a dairy farmer and shepherd in the Austrian and Swiss Alps, which has had a major influence on his artistic practice, which focuses mainly on sculpture and performance. He explicitly addresses his experiences in this rural cultural environment, with feelings of security and belonging, but also with feelings of alienation and discomfort in relation to its inherent and supposedly uncontradictory concepts of cultural identity, originality, and authenticity. As a consequence, he intervenes in the historically grown and self-referential formal language of cultural practices and their artifacts by isolating, alienating, amplifying, or even distorting them, thus questioning their inscribed codes, values, and norms.

Weithas studied (a.o.) Agriculture and Alpine Farming at BSBZ Hohenems (2014 – 2016), Transmedia Art with a focus on Social Practice at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (2017 – 2019; M.A.) and Pioneering in Arts, Media & the Creative Industries / Arts and Culture Management at Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen (2019 – 2021, M.A.). Since July 2023, he has been curating the exhibition format DOCK 20 life, which is presenting experimental positions from the fields of performance, dance, choreography and music at DOCK 20 – Kunstraum und Sammlung Hollenstein / Lustenau.
